Rockpeople: The Chester Creek Inuksuit Anthology
by Joel Carter
(published by his own Canukshuck Publishing, 2004)
On the advice of a Native America spiritual leader, emergency
room physician Joel Carter listens to rocks. He also takes
rocks and creates Inuksuit—“men of stone who point
the way”—Inuit stone structures that help travelers
find food or shelter in the Arctic. Carter's inuksuit are
part of his spritual journey, and they have graced Duluth,
Minnesota’s Chester Park and the creek of the same name
that runs through it. A bonefide regional hit, his collection
of photos of Carter’s creations mixed with his unique,
affirmation-like poems has received a lot of attention from
the local media and has been featured on National Public Radio.
X-Presso is proud to have helped Carter in all aspects of
his publishing experience.
